Why should you comment on LinkedIn?
It is strange to write on this topic. Especially considering the fact that I'm one of the people who probably say the sentences most often:
- Do you engage with other people's publications?
- How many comments have you left today?
- And how long have I been standing in the platform this week?
You know, no, I don't do it out of curtoasia or because I want you to waste your time. On the contrary, I do it because that is the way to succeed. It probably sounds ridiculous on the side, but your content is nothing in front of the engagement that you're fulfilling in the platform.
LinkedIn has long stopped being that social media where you just post job ads or congratulations on graduating from university or a new job. LinkedIn has become primarily a social media where people talk about their successes, failures, differences and how there's nothing wrong with failing sometimes. On the contrary, it has a positive effect on you, your brand and long-term your company.
5 years ago you could go "between the drops". Today no more. If you don't have an active presence, you simply don't exist on the platform. LinkedIn has a simple mechanism:
- If you are active → the algorithm shows you;
- If you are passive → the algorithm hides you;
But what does it mean to be active on LinkedIn?
- You like (but not indiscriminately);
- You comment (but meaningfully);
- You write (but authentically);
- You share (but don't duplicate);
🔎 According to the latest data from 2025 only 3% by users publish regularly a more than 90% only consume content. In a nutshell. And the platform pays you back with visibility.
A comment is more valuable than any single post
Being visible on the platform does not equal being intrusive. What's more, writing on LinkedIn does not mean being an influencer. It simply means stating: "This is me, this is how I think, this is how I work."
And here's the key, when you start building your personal brand, it's not vanity. Your long-term goal is to build trust with consumers on the other side of the screen because trust is damn hard to gain but very easy to lose.
Why did I say that a comment is worth times more? LinkedIn now allows you to see how many impressions your comments have generated and believe me, if you comment strategically and under the right posts, the impressions, i.e. the paths in which your thoughts have been seen are not few at all. For a real example you can continue reading below.
Your posts, your comments, the way you participate in conversations - all of this shapes your image in the minds of others. And at some point, when someone is looking for an expert in your field, they don't think of "someone with 15 years of experience". They think of you. Because you were visible, useful, understandable.
You can engage without even posting (at first)
If the idea of being active writing scares you, relax. It's not unusual. I'd even be surprised if it's different. You don't have to start with posts. Start with Engaging:
- Find 3 topics that interest you (e.g. marketing, leadership and HR)
- Follow 20-30 profiles that write on these topics
- Get into a dialogue. Comments. Questions. Support.
The goal here is more than simple: people to start seeing you. To get used to your name. Get used to yourself on LinkedIn. After 2-3 weeks this fear will disappear. And then you can start with bolder actions, namely your own content.
For your convenience, LinkedIn counts how many comments you've left for you, all you have to do is log into the Analytics section and take a look:

A real example of the power of comments
I have publications that lead me many impressions - 30-40 thousand with hundreds of likes and comments. I also have some that lead me on 1000-2000 impressions. What is the difference? The ones with 30-40k are not finding me clients and closing deals. Those with 1000-2000 do.
Why do I say this? I did an experiment just for this article. I found a nascent popular post that caught more inchoate around 50-60 likes.I knew the publication would be successful. There was every indication it would be and...that's exactly what happened.
It garnered over 1700 likes, about 100 comments and more than 30 people reshared the post.
If I were to make a bold assumption, the publication probably comes close to 100 000 impressionsif not to have passed them. Why is this important?
The moment I felt that the post was successful I immediately left a post - a personal one, sharing my opinion, my point of view, my thoughts. The comment did a great job - it gathered 42 likes, most of whom are people who do not know me directly and I can add, on the other hand collected more than 6000 impressions!

Now remember that moment when I told you that I had on 1000-2000 impressions of some publications. I post on 3 times a week. Assuming that all three posts have garnered 1000-2000 impressions each, I have generated a total of 3000-6000 impressions.
Now remember how many views (impressions) the comment got...bingo - 6000. One comment took me no more than 30-40 seconds for writing has generated the equivalent of some of my weeks (perhaps spent around 30-60 minutes in inventing content) ostentation on the part of the audience.
I leave the conclusions to you. The numbers speak best.
LinkedIn is the most effective channel for organic influence in the professional world
LinkedIn is the only platform where you can reach the CEO of a big company...with just one good post. No advertising budget. No links. Just value and persistence.
If you publish 1-2 times a week, you comment 3-4 times a day and participate in the right conversations, you will see results within 30-45 days:
- Calls for partnerships
- New Dating
- Invitations to participate in events
- Trust from potential customers
On the other side stands the parallel universe. Many people don't start because:
- Not sure what to say
- They think they are "not expert enough"
- Afraid they will look "intrusive"
But let me tell you something important: every high profile you see today started from scratch. With an embarrassing first post. With the first insecure comment. Perfect content doesn't exist. But authentic content does exist. And that's exactly what wins.
